The values and meaning of the dancer and those who share similar views of the world are inseparable from the structure, technique, and forms of the dance itself. For example, today's Ballet was developed from Romantic ballet and out of the Russian classical ballet of the 19th century. Both the movements and the order in which the dancers appear are formal and precise. While the Russian ballet mirrored the nobility and elite who attended, the Romantic ballet celebrated the aerial ballerina attempting to defy gravity.

What's more classical ballet theater is highly stylized and demanding therefore expensive to perform. So this dance requires patrons, who not only desire the elaborate nature of ballet, but those who can afford the expense of the right theater to deliver a show.

Nevertheless ballet has a staying power in part due to the dance continuing to reflect society in a relevant way. Also the technique, itself, is standardized, and a dancer can take a class anywhere in the world. classical ballet Unlike ballet that evolves by absorbing ideas into its existing movement vocabulary, Modern dance has never had a set vocabulary since its beginning 100 years ago. The director-choreographer is in control of all aspects of the company, often creating a completely new movement language or using "ordinary movements" to form the dances. (Even the company is named after this person... for example the Martha Graham Company.)

More interesting in the evolution of dance, the ideal Modern dancer is still of no one particular body type, but of all sizes and ethnic groups, and the dance concerts are found in museums, streets, gardens, rooftops and anywhere that fits the needs of the choreographer! The future of modern dance is only limited by individual creativity and the willingness of dancers to take a risk.
